City Guide

Jacksonville, Florida

Almost thirty years ago, some clever marketing people dubbed Jacksonville the "Bold New City of the South". Now, the world is discovering what area residents have always known...this is a great place for families to live, to work and to play.

The Bold New City title originally celebrated the adoption of a consolidated form of government that provides citizens with common services throughout the city and county. In addition to the obvious tax savings, the move also turned Jacksonville into the nation's largest city in terms of square miles. Add the local tax savings to Florida's zero state income tax and you'll find one of the primary reasons both businesses and the population in general choose this area to call home. It's affordable!

The average year-round temperature ranges from the low-50's to the mid-80's, ideal for year-round outdoor activities and low winter heating bills. Sports, both spectator and participating, play a major roll in the lifestyle of residents. From the NFL Jacksonville Jaguar team to the legendary TPC golf tournament... from the world famous 15k River Run to the annual Black Expo...Jacksonville has everyone's favorites. Organized sports, for kindergarten age to senior citizens, are also available year-round. There are a lot of things to cheer for in this Bold New City.

No matter what your neighborhood preference, chances are your future Jacksonville home will be on or near water. White sand Atlantic Ocean beaches, oak-lined St. Johns River shores, the boating Intracoastal Waterway paradise, plus numerous lakes, ponds and lagoons have made "waterfront property" a common phrase.

Neighborhoods and housing styles are as varied as people's tastes in lifestyle. If you've yearned for a turn-of-the-century Victorian, you'll be enchanted with the historic Avondale and Ortega areas. Spanish charm emanates from the architecture and landmarks found in San Marco and San Jose. Moss-draped ancient oaks provide the backdrop for the new and restored homes in the Mandarin area. These are but a few of the distinctive communities that make up the Bold New City.
